Established in 1976, the Layo Teraga cooperative was created to give smallholder farmers in Guji access to markets that were previously unavailable to them. Unlike neighboring Gedeo or Sidama zones, Guji historically suffered from lower coffee prices due to limited market opportunities. Situated in northern Uraga within the Guji zone, the cooperative is made up of 1,841 smallholder members who cultivate coffee in garden plots surrounding their homes, nestled within semi-forested areas at impressive elevations of 2,342 meters above sea level.
